Visiting Boulder: Visitor's Helpful Information Colorado Weather and High Altitude Colorado weather can be unpredictable. The spring weather can be warm and sunny or it can be cold and snowy. Bring a variety of clothing for both cold, snowy weather (20s) and warm (60s-70s). This a "high mountain desert" climate: in the summer it is hot during the day, and cools down at night. During the summer and early fall, expect late day thundershowers. Altitude: The elevation of Boulder is 5430 feet. The high altitude can have extreme effects on you. Here are some things you can do to avoid altitutde sickness and make your stay in Boulder more enjoyable: Adjust to the altitude: Studies show that spending 2 nights at a modest altitute like 5,000 feet decreases typical symptons like headches, fatigue, and nausea. Spend some time in Boulder before you head up to the higher elevations! Drink lots more water than usual. Take it easy the first day or two. Outdoor and athletic activities require adjustments in breathing and increasing the intake of hydrating fluids. Reduce alcohol, caffeine, and salty foods. We are one mile closer to the sun. Protect yourself with sun screen and sunglasses. On the plus side: judicious practice of Gyrotonic and/or Gyrokinesis does help with both jet lag and altitute adaptation.
